Kuttinkhan Estate (pronounced: Kuh-teen-khan) translates to 'Dark/Mean/Difficult Forest.' It borders the Muthodi/Badra Forest Reserve and is situated in the lush rainforests on the periphery of the Giris, Chikmagalur. The Estate, when first established, was in the midst of heavily forested, hilly terrain, with significant exposure to wildlife, creating countless hurdles for those attempting to start a Coffee Plantation. Hence the name. This Coffee was harvested from Gandadkhan 'D' block, the block with the highest elevation in Kuttinkhan Lower Estate, at 4100 feet or 1250 masl above sea level. The varietals of coffee plants in this block are primarily Arabica Selection 795, with some Selection 7 and Selection 9 plants as well. After a relatively short in-fruit fermentation using air-tight bags, the coffee was pulped without washing
and fermented anaerobically using air-tight barrels. After the fermentation, the beans underwent a lengthy 11-day drying process on raised beds. We have roasted this coffee quite lightly, highlighting the amazing bright raspberry notes and developing it just enough to enhance the natural buttery mouthfeel of the coffee.
