Anai Kadu takes its name of the Elepahants (Kadu) that frequent their estate. Located in Maldare in Coorg, Nisha and Kurian left their corporate lives in Bangalore and moved to their 50 acre coffee farm during the pandemic and started their journey of producing speciality coffee. For the 22-23 harvest they partnered with our dear friend Binny Varghese to help process their first speciality lots and some the samples that we received last year were quite incredible. Unfortunately we were too late to book them and they were picked up by a number of other roasters.
This time though we acted quickly and got hold of their Aerobic Naturals AKA The Elephants Trail. At BCR we like clean flavours in our coffees, and this Naturals was just that. Sweet, mellow acidity, and very clear flavour separation.
For coffees like these, we like to keep the roast very light to highlight the depth of flavours. In the cup we get sweet cranberries, creamy spiced chocolates and bright citrus acidity. The coffee also has a rich body and a sweet aftertaste that is specially highlighted as an espresso.
