Melkodige Estate's Lot 94 is an exceptionally clean naturally processed coffee, in spite the long Anaerobic Fermentation. This lot comes from SL9 cherries grown at the highest point of the estate almost 1300 metres above sea level in the Kudremukh Bio-reserve. This unique microclimate, with mineral-rich soils and carefully managed shade systems, allows the coffee cherries to mature slowly, producing dense beans with rich flavours.
The anaerobic natural processing method involves handpicking ripe cherries, sealing them in containers for controlled fermentation for 80 hours in this case, and drying them over 22 days to preserve their complexity. The result is a beautifully balanced coffee with tasting notes of Red Apple, Marmalade, and Stone Fruit. This is our first year working with Aveen, and his dedication and expertise to produce stellar coffees is absolutely on display with this one.
Being a super clean, juicy naturals we have roasted this one pretty light preserving it's brightness and fruity character. Like with most of our lighter roasts, this one is great for Pour Overs/AeroPress and similar brew methods, but we also find that this one makes amazing espressos and even tiny milk beverages.
