Riverdale Estate under Mr. Prakashan Balaraman has become one of the pioneers of Indian Speciality coffee, and Mr. Balaraman in the process has become one of the true Stars of Indian coffee, leading the charge in pushing the boundaries of Indian coffee. Through years of meticulous farming practices, dedicated research and experimentation Riverdale Estate has been put out some spectacular coffees in the last few years. Over the last five years of BCR, we’ve enjoyed so many delicious cups of their coffees from many of our favourite roasters in India and overseas!

This is the first time that we’ve had the opportunity of working with them and we are so incredibly excited about sharing our expression of their outstanding coffee with all of you. This Rose Fermeneted Naturals is one of the cleanest, yet juiciest coffees we tasted in all the samples we tried this year, and on the first sip we knew that we needed this for the Season Ticket.

With Riverdale Estate, we know for sure that the farming practices and the fermentation will be absolutely top notch, and like all coffees from them, this naturals is from the ripest and highest density SL9 cherries from the highest blocks of the estate. These cherries, containing a higher sugar content and a richer mucilage were rinsed with natural spring water to remove impurities and then defect sorted. These cherries are then fermented in tanks using white rose petals which as per the farmer enhances the development of flavonoids and anthocyanins, bringing out cleaner, brighter fruit notes. These cherries are then slow-dried on raised beds for over 30 days before hulling.

When we first cupped this coffee we were really impressed with how clean and complex the flavours in the coffee were, which is really a testament to the care with which the coffee was processed. We wanted to bring out as much of bright stone fruit, and the jammy berry character in the coffee, for which we had to roast this coffee super light but slower than usual. The result is a really special coffee with notes of Cranberry Jam, Vanilla, a ripe Apricot sweetness, and a rich creamy finish. This is really one of the cleanest, and most structured coffee we’ve tasted from them, and we are so excited to share our expression of our first Riverdale Coffee with all of you.
